The Ozone R1 is the peak of race and foil kite performance. The R1 will have you riding faster and pointing further upwind than any kite out there. New air intakes on the leading edge allow for quicker inflation and a solid, closed-cell foil. The R1 is a big step forward from the 2014 Chrono design with improved air intakes, smoother profile, and reduced bridling for less drag.
PRODUCT INFO
Developed without compromise using proven Chrono technology, the R1 produces breath taking speed and performance. The ultra clean leading edge, smooth surfaces and number of cells give an insight into its capabilities. But it's what you can't see that makes this race focused kite so special, the feeling on the bar and the responsiveness of this high aspect wing is unique.
Our newly calculated sail tension brings a level of stability that surpasses every high performance kite we have ever produced by far. Combined with new diagonal ribs, a high aspect ratio planform, reduced cell width and a new high performance profile the boundaries of performance have been re-defined again. The R1 is truly a race pedigree performance kite that will inspire confidence to the rider while delivering outstanding racing performance on the water, land or snow.
The R1 is for advanced riders only who have previous foil kite experience. It is not difficult to fly but there are techniques required to fly a high aspect ratio foil kite.
The R1 will require maintenance just like any high performance equipment in racing sports, for example replacing tyres or piston rings on motorbikes. The Speed System and Bridle Lines must be checked after every 60 hours flying time, if they are worn or are not to factory specifications (+ or - 15mm) they must be replaced or the kite will not perform as designed.
The R1 is a closed cell foil and is water re-launchable, but we recommend that you keep it flying and out of the water if possible! A drainage system on the wing tip allows any water that may have entered the kite to drain out.
The R1 features a simple yet effective front line flag out release. After releasing the flag out you should check the speed system, bridle lines and your flying lines for twists before restart.
The R1 is not a wave kite and should not be used in waves.
Wind range is indicative only based on an average rider weight of 80kg. Actual range will vary based on rider skill level and type of board used.
The R1 comes in two package options
Always use the Brake Handle when flying a foil kite. This easy to grab handle makes inflation, self-landing and reverse launch easier.
Incorporating a double pulley system offers minute trimming on the go with less force required. The long de-power line allows the rider to easily hike out maintaining maximum power against the foil/fins. 300kg front and 200kg back lines reduce drag for faster speeds on the course.

The Brake Handle makes inflation, self-landing and reverse launch easier. Always use the Brake Handle when flying a foil kite. The Brake Handle is removable to use the control system with an inflatable kite.
Push Away Quick Release – The control system features our Megatron push-away quick release with total flag out of the kite. The release handle is ergonomic with positive release forces for quick and easy release. Simple re-assembly saves time and gets you back up and riding faster.
Two Release Modes – The Megatron offers riders a choice of two release modes, the recommended Standard or the optional Expert mode.
Anti-twist Flag Out Line and Spinning Handle – The flag out line running through the Megatron & kite leash attachment at the bottom keeps the leash tangle free when doing rotations and manually unwinding the centre lines using the Spinning Handle.
Auto Positioning Chicken Loop – Designed in conjunction with the bar centre piece, the Megatron spinning handle auto positions the chicken loop when unhooking.
Foil Brake Handle – This easy to grab handle makes inflation, self-landing and reverse launch easier. Always use the Brake Handle when flying a foil kite. The Brake Handle is removable to use the control system with an inflatable kite.
Soft Bar Ends with Hide-away Elastic Line Retainers – Soft bar ends for comfort and are less likely to damage lightly constructed boards. Hide-away elastic line retainers keep wound lines secured.
Stainless Steel Leader Line Pin – Superior strength is achieved with a Stainless pin running through the bar. This creates an ultra strong and direct connection between the control bar to flying lines.
Double Pulley Trim System – Offers minute trimming on the go with less force required. The long de-power line allows the rider to easily hike out maintaining maximum power against the foil/fins.
Low Friction Centre Piece – The control bar features a low friction centre piece designed to reduce wear.
PU Covered De-power Line – The tough PU covered de-power line significantly reduces wear when sheeting in and out.
Stainless Steel Trimmer Bracket and Ronstan Orbit Pulley – The smooth running trimmer bracket and Ronstan pulley also prevent trim line wear.
Clamcleat Trimmer – Anodized low abrasion Clamcleat trimmer.
Low Drag Race Flying Lines – Colour coded 300kg front / 200kg back lines.
EVA Grip – Lightly sanded with ergonomic finger bumps providing the ultimate bar grip.
UTILISING TOP OF THE LINE COMPONENTS AND MATERIALS THE FOIL RACE CONTROL SYSTEM IS SMOOTH AND RELIABLE ON THE COURSE.
• Standard mode offers 100% flag out in all situations by releasing the Megatron or letting go of the bar when un-hooked.
• Expert mode offers 100% flag out only when the Megatron is released whilst hooked in, allowing riders practicing handle passes to let go of the bar without releasing the kite to flag out (not recommended).
The Foil Race Control System bar sizes come in 38cm, 45cm, 50cm and 55cm. The larger size PU chicken loop (sold separately) is perfect for riders with longer arms or requiring even easier hooking in & out.
MEGATRON PUSH-AWAY CHICKEN LOOP
The Megatron Chicken Loop features push-away release with total flag out of the kite. The release handle is ergonomic with positive forces for quick and easy release. Simple re-assembly saves time and gets you back up and riding faster.
All riders should attach their kite leash to the total flag out system. This is the small eyelet of the steel ring at the bottom of the Megatron. When the chicken loop is released, the kite will flag out and fall to the water/ground.
ADVANCED RIDERS: (not recommended, use at your own risk)
NOTE: When letting go of the bar in Expert mode (without releasing the Megatron, e.g. missed handle pass) the kite will depower but WILL NOT flag out. Be aware in this situation, the Megatron will be out of reach and can therefore not be released. When hooked in and releasing the Megatron the steel ring automatically slips off the chicken loop and the kite will flag out.
In all situations make sure that all lines are clear of all working release systems and the kite leash is connected in the right way.
Riders performing unhooked tricks or who are more confident and have spent many hours kiting can attach to the ring using the Expert mode, where the chickenloop runs through the large eye of the steel ring.
